Masjid Al-Islam is currently searching for a new Imam for the community. The Amir is currently Brother James (Jimmy) Jones.

James (Jimmy) E. Jones, D. Min.


James (Jimmy) E. Jones, D. Min. is the Associate Professor of World Religions at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York with a concurrent appointment in African Studies at Manhattanville College. Professor Jones is former chair of the World Religions Department and a Professor of Comparative Religion at The Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences. He is Director of the Al-Azhar University (Egypt) Arabic Summer Immersion Program for Americans.

His writing, research and lecture activities are focused on Muslim American identity development and conflict resolution.
Internationally, Dr. Jones has lectured at, taught in or consulted to institutions in Bahrain, Bermuda, Egypt, Jerusalem, Trinidad-Tobago, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. His most recent publication is a chapter in the recently released book Islamophobia and Anti-Americanism ( Mohamed Nimer , ed., Amana, 2007) entitled "What is Taking Place is a Clash of Cousins.“

Dr. Jimmy Jones holds a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, a master’s degree from Yale University Divinity School and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Hartford Seminary. He lives in New Haven, Connecticut with his wife where they are striving to build a better Muslim community via Masjid Al Islam's community development project.

Imam Imam Dawood Yasin

Imam Dawood Yasin studied international relations at SCSU in New Haven and then left his studies in 1991 after being picked up by Wilhemina Models of New York. Imam Dawood spent five years living and working in Paris, London, New York, Milan and South Africa. It was during his stay in South Africa that he embraced Islam and returned to the US.
 
After making Hajj in the following year, he began his informal studies of Islam and the Arabic Language. He then pursued his formal studies of Islam and Arabic in Damascus, Syria where he remained for five years. Upon his return to the U.S., Imam Dawood helped form SHUKRONLINE, an online clothing company that offers Islamic apparel and modest clothing.

Imam Dawood was an assistant teaching fellow of Arabic at Yale until last year. He currently lives in UAE with his wife and two daughters.
